Or print out the instructions below. There are four sets of directions, one for each of the compass points. If you’re an old time Mainer, however, you can use the DeLorme Maine Atlas, Map 6:3B, although Echo Road itself will be missing if you have a much-loved older copy.

If you’re local and know how to function in Brunswick, just skip to the first section, below, starting at step 5.


From points north (Augusta, Bangor, the Allagash, Montreal):

  1. Heading south on I-95 (Maine Turnpike), take Exit 103, marked “South 295/Gardiner/Brunswick” to get to I-295.
  2. Then take exit 28, marked “US-1 Coastal Rte/Brunswick Bath” Merge onto exit from North I-295 and move into the right lane.
  3. Make a sharp right (reversing direction) to follow Rte 1 South.
  4. At the first stop sign turn right on Durham Road.
  5. In 2.9 miles, turn right onto Hacker Road at the blinking yellow light.
  6. In half a mile, look for Echo Road and the Two Echo Community sign on the right (this is easy to miss).
  7. Turn right onto Echo Road, observing slow speed limit.
  8. When you get to Two Echo, you’ll stop at the stop sign and see a sign to help you decide which way to go based on the address of the folks you’ve come to visit:
    • 76 – 87 Two Echo Road: turn right and park in the west lot
    • Common House, 88 – 96 and 127 Two Echo Road: go straight and park in the central lot
    • 98 – 125 Two Echo Road: turn left and park in the east lot

From points downeast (Camden, Belfast, Quoddy Head, Labrador):

  1. Heading south on Route 1 towards Brunswick, go past the first two Brunswick exits, “New Meadows” and “Cook’s Corner,” and stay on Route 1 as it by-passes downtown Brunswick.
  2. After Cooks Corner, edge into the left lane, marked “24 South/Maine Street/Brunswick” so as not to get stuck in the exit-only right lane to “Topsham/Lewiston.”
  3. Stay in left lane as you go under Water Street and Maine Street. You’ll curve left around a bend in the Androscoggin River, flow right at the light (Cumberland Farms on inside corner) and end up on on Pleasant Street.
  4. Heading south on Pleasant Street/Route 1, turn right at the light onto River Road (the Bill Dodge Hyundai dealership is on the far corner).
  5. Continue on River Road 4.3 miles, and turn left onto Hacker Road.
  6. Stay on Hacker 1.1 miles, then look for Echo Road and the Two Echo Community sign on the left.
  7. Turn left onto Echo Road, observing slow speed limit.
  8. When you get to Two Echo, you’ll stop at the stop sign and see a sign to help you decide which way to go based on the address of the folks you’ve come to visit:
    • 76 – 87 Two Echo Road: turn right and park in the west lot
    • Common House, 88 – 96 and 127 Two Echo Road: go straight and park in the central lot
    • 98 – 125 Two Echo Road: turn left and park in the east lot

From points south (Portland, Boston, New York, Key West);

  1. Heading north from the Maine/New Hampshire border on the Maine Turnpike,  I-95, take Exit 44, marked  “295 North / Downtown Portland”);
  2. Stay on I-295 to Exit 24 (marked “US-1 N Freeport”).
  3. After the exit, turn left onto US-1 N.
  4. In 4.3 miles, turn left onto the Durham Road.
  5. In 2.9 miles, turn right onto Hacker Road.
  6. In half a mile, look for Echo Road and the Two Echo Community sign on the right.
  7. Turn right onto Echo Road, observing slow speed limit.
  8. When you get to Two Echo, you’ll stop at the stop sign and see a sign to help you decide which way to go based on the address of the folks you’ve come to visit:
    • 76 – 87 Two Echo Road: turn right and park in the west lot

From points west (Lisbon Falls, Lewiston, New Hampshire, Seattle):

  1. Heading east on Route 196 through Lisbon Falls, turn right at the light onto conjoined Routes 125/9, marked “Durham.”
  2. Zero odometer. Really.
  3. Cross the Androscoggin River and immediately turn left, staying on south Route 125, marked “Freeport” (if you continue to follow signs to Durham and turn right, you’ll end up on a back way on Route 9…).
  4. At 2.6 miles on the odometer, turn left onto Soper Road.
  5. At 3.8 miles on the odometer, turn right onto Hacker Road.
  6. At about 4.9 miles on the odometer, turn left onto Echo Road, observing slow speed limit.
  7. When you get to Two Echo, you’ll stop at the stop sign and see a sign to help you decide which way to go based on the address of the folks you’ve come to visit:
    • 76 – 87 Two Echo Road: turn right and park in the west lot
    • Common House, 88 – 96 and 127 Two Echo Road: go straight and park in the central lot
    • 98 – 125 Two Echo Road: turn left and park in the east lot
